However, after being pushed to its absolute limits—including a brutal beating in a sandstorm—the engine gave up the ghost. Although the Off‑Road Challenger’s 318‑cubic‑inch engine did not survive the sandstorm, that was not the end of the car’s story. In a later episode titled “Low‑Buck Revival: The Off‑Road Challenger Lives Again!” (Season 4, Episode 5), Freiburger and Dulcich return to the project. They install a fresh 360ci powerplant and a 727 transmission sourced from a $1,500 parts truck, breathing new life into the battered E‑body.

The car used in this episode was originally a mundane dirt-track racer that had previously appeared in (Episodes 54 and 56).

The star of this episode is a 1970 Dodge Challenger that had already lived a hard life before Freiburger and Dulcich got their hands on it.
