The Sri Lalitha Sahasranamam is not an ordinary composition. According to tradition, it holds a unique and divine origin. While most other sahasranamas (hymns of a thousand names) are attributed to the sage Vyasa, the Lalitha Sahasranamam is said to have been composed by the Vagdevis —the eight goddesses of speech—directly under the supervision of the Divine Mother herself.
